# What You’ll Need:

→ Dough

01 - 2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
03 - 1 ½ tsp instant yeast
04 - 1 tsp sugar
05 - ¾ tsp salt
06 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

→ Garlic Butter

07 - 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
08 - 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
09 - 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
10 - ½ tsp salt

# Directions:

01 - In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let the mixture stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
02 - Add flour, salt, and softened butter to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then turn out onto a lightly floured surface.
03 - Knead the dough by hand for 7–8 minutes, or 5 minutes using a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, until smooth and elastic.
04 - Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
05 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
06 - Gently punch down the risen dough and divide into 12 equal portions. Roll each piece into a 7–8 inch long breadstick and arrange on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
07 - Cover the shaped breadsticks loosely with a kitchen towel and let rise until puffed, 20–30 minutes.
08 - Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the tops are lightly golden and the breadsticks sound hollow when tapped.
09 - While the breadsticks bake, stir together melted butter, minced garlic, salt, and chopped parsley in a small bowl.
10 - As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush generously with the garlic butter mixture. Serve warm.

02 -
  • If your kitchen is cold the first rise can take up to ninety minutes so be patient and do not rush it.
  • Brushing the garlic butter on while the breadsticks are piping hot is essential because cooled bread will just get greasy instead of absorbing the flavor.
03 -
  • A damp kitchen towel works better than plastic wrap for covering dough because it breathes and does not stick.
  • If you want perfectly even breadsticks weigh the dough and divide by twelve so every piece is identical.
